“Elena” es el nombre de la operación curatorial del
colectivo Troyano, la cual pretende contextualizar una
serie de trabajos desarrollados durante estos últimos
25 años, y a los que no se les ha dado la atención que
se merecen en Chile, debido fundamentalmente a dos
factores: la burocratización de la institución del
arte de estos últimos 15 años, que ha limitado el
campo de acción productivo abortando cualquier forma
ajena a las hegemonías de poder y, por otro lado, el
carácter semántico que se desprende del concepto de
artes visuales; la valorización del resultado visual
por sobre el proceso técnico de la producción, que es
controlada y administrada, en estos tiempos, por la
computadora. Para la Bienal de Vídeo y Nuevos Medios,
Troyano ha escogido el nombre “Elena‰, denominación
obtenida de un virus (W32/HLLow.Elitiamo), que borra y
re-escribe sobre la memoria de la computadora, y ha
compuesto una selección de trabajos (teóricos y
prácticos) que documentarán de forma histórica este
vacío epistemológico. Para complementar el proyecto,
se ha convocado al músico Alejandro Albornoz, que ha
hecho una selección de piezas musicales chilenas,
compuestas con sonidos electrónicos o realizadas en
una computadora, a partir de los años cincuenta hasta
ahora. Se ha escogido dicha área ya que Chile es uno
de los precursores a nivel latinoamericano en cuanto
experimentación y creación en este campo, y ha sido
muy poco difundido a nivel masivo en nuestro país.

Introduction

“Elena” is the name of the curational operative of the
Troyano collective, which attempts to contextualize a
series of works developed during the last 25 years,
that haven‚t received the recognition they deserve in
Chile. Mainly because of two factors: the bureaucratic
aspect of the Art institution of the last 15 years,
that has limited production in the action field,
aborting any foreign means to the hegemonies of power
and, on the other hand, the semantic characteristics
drawn from the Visual Arts concept; the
over-valorization of the final visual result as
opposed to the technical process of production, that
in this age is controled and administrated by
computers. For the Biennial of Video andy New Media,
Troyano has chosen the name “Elena‰, taken from a
virus (W32/HLLow.Elitiamo) that erases and re-writes
over the computer memory, and has elaborated a
selection of works (theorics and practicals) that will
document in an historic form this epistemic emptyness.
To complement this project, the musician Alejandro
Albornoz has been invited to make selection of Chilean
musical pieces, composed with electronic sounds or
realized by computer, comencing in the Å’50s continuing
till now. This subject has been chosen, because Chile
is one of the precursor countries, on a Latin-American
scale, in experimentation and creation on this field,
which has been diffused at a very low level in our
country.
