Talk: Listening in Present Time

Salomé Voegelin and guests discuss the exhibition in relation to contemporary practice. Voegelin is an artist and writer concerned with the practice and philosophy of sound. She is also a senior lecturer and a course leader in sound art at the London College of Communication. Her sonic pieces use a documentary approach, to glean from the interviewee a truth beyond the visual, whilst her audio-visual work plunders sonic archives and splices old recordings to narrate a visual scenario.

Talk: Rearrange the Word

David Toop and guests discuss the influence of Burroughs’ work. Toop is a musician/composer, writer, curator and significant presence in experimental and improvised music. His pioneering books on music and sound include Rap Attack, Ocean of Sound, Exotica and Haunted weather. He curated the sound art exhibition Sonic Boom, and a 2-CD collection of experimental music in Britain from between the years 1960 – 1977.

Documentary directed by Lars Movin and Steen Møller Rasmussen based on never-before-seen footage of Burroughs’ visit to Denmark in 1983, and his later years in Lawrence, Kansas. Soon to be officially released on DVD.
