S1 Artspace has three new positions currently available, please see

Formed in 1995, S1 Artspace provides studio space for contemporary
visual artists, creative businesses and provides an international
exhibitions programme. Over the past 16 years, it has built its
reputation on providing affordable quality artists’ studios, as well
as supporting artists at all stages of their career through its
programme of new commissions, residencies and screening programmes. In
2010, S1 Artspace relocated to new premises, which has provided a
range of new facilities including an arts library, wood workshop and
260m2 gallery space.

Technician

Salary £18,000 pro rata
Hours 3 days per week: Normally 10.30 – 6.30pm, but flexibility
required
Contract Permanent (6 month probationary period)

Principal purpose

To support the Artistic Director on the delivery and execution of all
exhibitions; including planning & logistics, liaising with artists,
shipping, insurance, suppliers and leading all exhibition installs and
de-stalls. To support the Studios Coordinator on the day-to-day
maintenance of the building and its facilities. To ensure that all
artists we work with are fully supported in the lead up to exhibitions
and throughout the installation and production process.

Key responsibilities

To lead on the technical delivery of all exhibition installs and
de-stalls
To prepare for all exhibition installs
To carry out improvements and maintenance to the building
To ensure equipment and facilities are safe and fit for purpose at all
times
To manage volunteers during exhibition installs
To liaise with all external building contractors and service providers
to ensure the building is well maintained and serviced
To work with the Artistic Director and Studios Coordinator to ensure
the building is maintained to a high standard
To support artists to install their work to a high standard
Late evening work will be necessary on occasion, especially during
exhibition installations
To actively and positively contribute to other areas of S1
Artspace’s activities and duties as and when required

Communications Coordinator

Salary £18,000 pro rata

Contract Permanent (6 month probationary period)

Principal purpose

To provide a professional first point of contact for all visitors and
users of the building. To contribute to the development of and
delivery of S1’s Marketing & Audience Development Strategy, in order
to develop audiences and to raise the profile of the organisation
nationally and internationally. To develop and communicate all forms
of S1’s publicity and PR material to effectively reach and engage as
wide an audience as possible. To develop and administer S1’s new
Friends Scheme.

Key responsibilities

To provide a first point of contact for all visitors and users of the
building
To develop & deliver the marketing activity for the gallery’s
exhibitions and events programme
To support the Artistic Director in developing and monitoring
audiences
To liaise with designers on the production of all marketing material
To ensure all publicity material is well distributed
To administer and promote S1 Artspace’s hire facilities
To manage all gallery and reception hires
To maintain and develop S1’s arts library and other facilities
To develop and administer S1 Artspace’s new Friends Scheme
To work with the Technician to ensure the building and all of its
facilities are well maintained and presented to a high standard
To undertake cleaning duties as required
Late evening work will be necessary on occasion, especially during
exhibition installations, openings and events
To actively and positively contribute to other areas of S1
Artspace’s activities and duties as and when required

Studios Coordinator

Salary £18,000 pro rata
Hours 2 days per week: Normally 10.30 – 6.30pm, but flexibility
required
Contract Fixed Term (4 month) post with view to make permanent subject
to funding

Principal purpose

To support all aspects of Studio Holder activity within the building,
to maintain the studios and related facilities and to manage and
administrate the S1 Associates Scheme. To put in place strategies to
allow Studio Holders and Associates the opportunity to develop their
artistic practice and networks. To raise the profile of Studio Holders
and Associates, S1 Artspace and its facilities.

Key responsibilities

To effectively manage all aspects of the studios including all
administration, finance, fundraising and marketing activities.
To manage and administrate the S1 Associates Scheme.
To promote Studio Holder and Associates activity to a wide and diverse
audience.
To develop fundraising bids to improve access to the building, general
facilities, necessary renovations and to continue the Studio
Coordinators position.
To ensure that all forms of communication are maintained and kept up
to date, including the Studios and Associates pages on the website,
Facebook, Twitter etc.
To research potential opportunities for S1’s Studio Holders and
Associates
To co-ordinate the studio holders’ review process.
To co-ordinate all internal communications between studio holders,
staff and the Board.
To work with the Technician and Studio Holders to effectively maintain
the function and cleanliness of all aspects of the building and its
facilities.
Provide day-to-day maintenance to the building and to undertake
cleaning duties as required.
To represent Studios Holders at Board meetings and external events
when necessary
To actively and positively contribute to other areas of S1
Artspace’s activities and duties as and when required
